Area Places Of Worship

Wayne and its environs were settled well over two hundred years ago by a variety of devoutly observant worshippers.

French Catholics  first settled the area as part of the French exploration of the St. Lawrence Seaway and the Great Lakes. There remain many, very old Roman Catholic Churches throughout Maine and New England. Catholicism is still the largest denomination in Maine. The Puritans and Shakers, Methodists, Anglicans, Lutherans and Baptists, one denomination after another that has expanded into the mountains and up the perilous coast have all left a trail of adherents.
